A Short History
n late 1950’s Geelong, Tom Bowen developed what is now known as The Bowen Technique, Bowen Therapy or Bowenwork. In 1974 he invited Oswald Rentsch and his wife Elaine to study with him and document his work. In 1986 they honoured their promise to Tom Bowen by beginning to teach the technique.
To ensure that the technique is taught in its original form they founded the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia (Bowtech) in 1987.
Bowen Training Australia (TOid 41134), with the permission of Bowtech, now offers the Cert IV in Bowen Therapy (40533NAT) and the Diploma of Specialised Bowen Therapy (40534NAT) along with Continuing Education Units for practitioners.
What it is and how does it work?
owen, is a gentle form of body work where subtle moves are performed over muscles and connective tissue sending messages to our autonomic nervous system. This allows the body to relax and therefore promote balance and wellbeing .
Results can be remarkable and often only a few sessions are needed to correct the presenting problem. There are essential pauses during a session that allow the body time to respond and begin the healing process.
Unlike many other body therapies, the Bowen Therapy does not use forceful manipulation.
